Govt refuses to succumb to pressure to declare hunger national disaster

Government says it will not succumb to any pressure both from within or outside the Country to declare the current hunger situation a national emergency.

Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe has maintained that government is on top of things and is responding to the hunger situation adequately.

Mr Kabwe states that only six percent of the population in the country is currently in need of relief food which government is providing.

He states that those urging government to declare the hunger situation a national disaster are therefore merely making noise to please their pay masters.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Kabwe has disclosed that government is also aware that there are external political elements using the hunger situation to push for regime change.
