Mvunga says it is incumbent upon former Ministers to comply with the Concourt ruling

Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Christopher Mvunga says failure by serving and former Ministers who remained in office after the dissolution of parliament to comply with the Constitution Court ruling to pay back the money they received in salaries and allowances will have consequences.

Mr. Mvunga who is one of the former Ministers who remained in office after the dissolution of parliament has told Journalist in Lusaka that it is incumbent upon everyone affected to comply.

He has emphasized that it is an obligation upon individuals to ensure that the court ruling is adhered to.

Meanwhile Secretary to the Cabinet Simon Miti has directed the Accountant General to ensure all heads of accounting units adhere to austerity measures put in place by government.  

Dr. Miti says government expects accountants to provide informative reports and accurate accounting information timely to facilitate decision making that will result in compliance to austerity measures. 

Speaking when he officiated at a workshop for directors of finance and heads of accounting units in ministries, provinces and agencies, Dr. Miti is also urging accountants to provide sound advice to controlling officers on implementation of austerity measures.  

He says Cabinet expects accountants to play an advisory role in the allocation of public resources during the budgeting process to ensure attainment of more institutional performance outputs with optimal allocation of resources. 

Dr Miti says as heads of accounting units, there is need for them to adhere to procedures and regulations with respect to accounting and reporting on debt management. 

The Secretary to the Cabinet has further implored accountants to implement effective internal control systems and provide advice to their controlling officers in order to prevent uncontrolled accumulation of debt and related arrears. 

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Christopher Mvunga.
