Mushimba explains delayed payments to students in Russia

Higher Education Minister, Brian Mushimba says the delayed payment of stipends to students studying in Russia has been resolved.

Commenting on the letter that has been circulating on social media purported to be from an anonymous student in Russia complaining that the students on government scholarships have gone and go for months without receiving their stipends, Dr. Mushimba has acknowledged that there was a temporal hiccup that occurred with the bank that is used to pay the money, hence delay the payments in the process.

He says new bank cards have since been issued to the students allowing them to get paid on time.

Dr Mushimba explains that a delegation was sent to Russia to address the situation which he acknowledges was not normal and usual.

The minister says government is committed to ensuring that student loan bonds, allowances or stipends for all students on government scholarships both within and abroad are paid on time.
