Men’s Network wants govt to establish separate correctional facilities for sexual offenders

The Zambia National Men’s Network for Gender and Development( ZNMNGD) has called on government to establish separate correctional facilities for sexual offenders in the country.

Organization National Coordinator  Nelson Banda says this will help to segregate  them from other criminals as a form of punishment and placing shame on perpetrators as  an intervention to curb Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV).

Mr. Banda has told QTV news that the facilities should be located at the provincial centers to operate alongside the s-g-b-v fast track courts.

He believes that this will take the fight against sexual gender based violence to a new level.

Mr. Banda feel that the establishment of the separate sexual offenders correctional facilities will offer focused and centralized punitive and rehabilitation of defilers as they continue to serve their jail sentences.

He has stressed that the separation of sexual offenders by placing them in an isolated facility will be another form of punishment to create shame on the part of the perpetrators.

Mr. Banda is however optimistic that the creation of these facilities by government will be one of the solutions to ending SGBV as it is an open secret that on a daily basis there are disturbing reports of defilement and rape cases reported in the media.
