Govt urged not to rush into exporting Maize to DRC

Consumer Unity Trust Society (CUTS) has advised government through the ministry of agriculture to ensure the country has enough maize stocks before thinking of exporting to neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

Government has submitted a drat memorandum of understanding (MoU) report to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to facilitate for maize export to that country to curb smuggling, and boost trade between the two countries.

CUTS national coordinator Chennai Mukumba says measures need to be put in place to ensure the country has enough maize stocks to avoid exacerbating the hunger situation the country currently is faced with.
