COMESA commits to supporting development of member states

Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe says COMESA will continue to use trade as a means to support the development of member states.

Speaking when Vatican Ambassador to Zambia Gianfranco Gollone presented his credentials as Special Representative to COMESA, Ms Kapwepwe says over the past 25 years, COMESA has been involved in supporting the integration agenda of the region.

She adds that the ultimate objective is to support member states to transform their economies so that they can better improve the welfare of the people especially the vulnerable.

Ms Kapwepwe is confident that the responsibilities of the Vatican’s special representative to COMESA will contribute to the cooperation between the Catholic Church and COMESA.

And speaking when he presented his credentials Archbishop GianFranco Gallone says his appointment is an expression of the continued good relationship between the Holy SEE and COMESA.

He adds that he is hopeful that the relationship will continue to evolve along the premises of dialogue and mutual respect.
