ZESCO urged to undertake structural changes

Zitukule consortium has recommended that ZESCO undertakes structural changes as part of the solution to the challenges affecting power utility firm.

Consortium Executive Director Nicholas Phiri believes that restructuring the state-owned power company will help address inefficiencies which he feels are impacting negatively on its operations.

He states that while he agrees that hiking electricity tariffs is key to attracting investment, it is however not a long term solution to addressing the challenges the country is facing in the provision of power as most problems are with the utility company.

Mr. Phiri is confident that the current wage bill which is quite high at the power utility firm can be reduced if the firm is restructured.
