Caritas Zambia doubts 2020 national budget will change the country’s economic status

Caritas Zambia Executive Director Eugene Kabilika has predicted that nothing meaningful to change the country’s economic status will come out of the 2020 national budget.

Mr. Kabilika has told QTV news in an interview that he does not expect any meaningful change in the budgetary allocations to various sectors.

He feels that more funding will be channeled towards debt servicing and addressing climate change.

Mr. Kabilika says the social sector which has greatly contributed to the development of the economy is currently only surviving on about 9 percent funding from the 2019 budget, as over 50 percent was channeled towards emoluments and about 40 percent to debt servicing, a situation he feels will not change in the 2020 national budget.
