Impending electricity tariffs increase to apply to all categories of consumers- Nkhuwa

Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa says the impending increase in electricity tariffs will apply to all categories of consumers.

Mr Nkhuwa says there is a crisis that needs everyone to resolve.

He says the power deficit the country is facing is likely to be addressed between 2020 and 2021.

And Mr Nkhuwa says his ministry has started implementing the directive by President Edgar Lungu to prioritize power supply to hospitals, health centers and water supply operations.

In a ministerial statement to parliament on the electricity situation in the country, Mr. Nkhuwa has however, acknowledged that implementing the directive is not easy as the situation is resulting in some houses that share the same power connection lines with the health facilities being exempted from load shedding.
