EL calls for inclusive representation on UN Security Council

President Edgar Lungu has called for other continents to be represented on the United Nations Security Council as the 7th session of the UN General Assembly opened in New York today, 17th September,2019.

Speaking when outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Hidenobu Sobashima paid a courtesy call on him at State House to bid farewell, President Lungu says the global grouping of nations can do better by accommodating representation from all continents on the UN Security Council.

He has wondered why the UN Security Council is a monopoly of five permanent members to the exclusion of others, and making decisions that matters.

And President Lungu has commended the outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Zambia for his contribution towards cementing bilateral relations between Zambia and Japan.

He says during his recent trip to Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), he invited the Zambian private sector because he wanted to see more of agricultural programmes and joint partnerships between Zambians and Japanese.

And Ambassador Sobashima has commended President Lungu for taking a leading role in ensuring that the bilateral ties between the two countries are strengthened further.
