Lifuka OKs removal of George Siame as FIC chairperson

Transparency International Zambia Chapter President Reuben Lifuka has welcomed President Edgar Lungu’s decision to revoke the appointment of George Siame as Chairperson of Financial Intelligence Centre following a public outcry about his integrity and suitability to serve in the position.

Mr. Lifuka is however, concerned that the appointing authority seemingly did not undertake the necessary due diligence to ensure that only persons of good moral standing and unquestionable backgrounds, are appointed to serve on such an important Board.

He has told QTV News that it is time the President and all Ministers who have powers to appoint people to Boards, cast their nets wide and consider the many Zambians who are highly qualified and reputable, and who can serve in such positions with distinction.

Mr. Lifuka says the narrow approach of seeking to appoint those who are politically connected should stop henceforth.

He has reminded President Lungu that he should resist the temptation to populate Boards of government and quasi government bodies with party cadres.

The TIZ Chapter President says in selecting a replacement for the position of FIC Board Chairperson, deliberate effort should be made to identify individuals who are impartial, independent and credible.
