FFTUZ accepts all, but two from Constitution Amendment Bill

The Federation of Free Trade Unions (FFTUZ) has supported all but one Article in the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 10 and the introduction of the position Deputy Minister.

FFTUZ president Chingati Msiska says his federation is opposed to the deletion of Article 189 (2) which provides for the payment of pension benefits.

Mr. Msiska has argued that the deleted provision ring-fences retirees from destitution before pension benefits are paid.

Speaking when his union appeared before the Parliamentary select committee scrutinizing the Constitution Amendment Bill no.10, Mr. Msiska says his federation is of the view that retirees must be maintained on the payroll until their benefits are paid in full.

On the introduction of the Deputy Ministers position, Mr. Msiska submitted that the FFTUZ does not agree with the proposed amendment as it will only be a huge and unnecessary cost to the state.
