Govt urged to increase to 20% budgetary allocation to education sector

Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa – SESTUZ Secretary General

Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ) General Secretary Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa has urged government to increase to 20% the budgetary allocation to the education sector in the 2020 national budget.

Mr. Wamuyuwa has noted with concern that the education sector has suffered greatly over the years due to inadequate funding.

He has told QTV News that it is necessary that government increases the budgetary allocation to the education sector, citing the increased enrollment in schools as a result of newly built schools and the reduction in school fees among others.

Mr. Wamuyuwa says these and other developments are enough for government to consider revising the budgetary allocation to the education sector from the current 15.3 percent to 20 percent.
