FRA buys 79, 425 metric tons of maize

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has so far bought 79, 425 metric tones of maize from small scale farmers under the 2019 crop marketing season, far below its target of 300,000 metric tons.

FRA Acting Public Relations Officer Manyando Luywa has told QTV News that the purchase of 79,425 metric tones is as at 28th August, 2019.

Mrs. Luywa says it’s too early to tell whether the FRA will meet the target of purchasing the 300, 000 metric tons of Maize, but that the agency is still in the market.

She however, states that the agency is facing a challenge in buying maize owing to the high price the private buyers are offering farmers ranging from K150 and above for a 50kg.
