Govt keen to see relevant laws enacted in a consultative manner

Government says it is keen to see that relevant laws are enacted to meet the changing needs of society through a consultative process.

Officiating at a Zambia Law Development Commission workshop on public and civil society engagement in the law reform process, Permanent secretary in the office of the vice president in charge of Parliamentary business, Julianna Shuko noted the need to include participation from various stakeholders in the continuous process of law reforms.

Ms Shuko says laws that are drafted without adequate stakeholder participation result in laws that are in conflict with one another.

She has challenged the Law Development Commission to live up to its mandate of being the driver of law reform in the country.

And Zambia Law Development Commission Commissioner Chilambwe Mwaanga who spoke on behalf of the Commission’s chairperson Justice Roydah Kaoma has noted the need to raise the profile of his organization in order to effectively facilitate law reforms in the country.
