Govt advises truck and bus drivers against traveling to SA

Government has cautioned all Zambian truck owners, bus owners and drivers to with immediate avoid travelling to South Africa until the security situation improves.

In a statement, Transport and Communications Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya has advised truck owners and drivers to park all truck currently in that country in safe and secure designed places that the authorities in that may recommend until the security situation improves.

Mr Kafwaya says in line with the bilateral Road Transport Agreement between South Africa and Zambia on security and safety, the government will continue engaging the South African government to ensure that security measures are put in place to safeguard the lives of Zambian truck drivers who may be in that country.

The Zambian embassy in South Africa Last week issued a security alert to Zambian truck drivers following threats of violence by South African truck drivers who accuse foreigners of taking their jobs.

South Africans have gone on rampage looting and torching shops believed to be owned by African immigrants.

Videos widely shared on social media show several burnt cars in what appears to be a second-hand care dealership.
