Elias Chipimo quits as NAREP president

National Restoration Party (NAREP) president Elias Chipimo has stepped down as the party’s leader to pursue other opportunities in the private sector.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Chipimo says NAREP Vice President Charles Maboshe will serve as Interim President until a substantive party leader is appointed.

Mr. Chipimo says the search for a permanent successor is underway.

He has however, stated that NAREP still a member of the Opposition Alliance and that it will be up to the new leadership to decide whether the party should continue being a member of the alliance or not.

Mr Chipimo adds that he will not join any political party and that those enticing him to do so will be wasting their time.

Meanwhile Mr. Chipimo says Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Patrick Matibini has failed to play his role as a gate keeper by failing to protect the interest of Zambian people with regards the Constitution amendment bill no.10 of 2019.

Speaking at the same briefing, Interim NAREP president Charles Maboshe says the party will play its role in inculcating leadership skills in the young people.

And Frank Sichone has been appointed new party spokesperson taking over from Bwalya Nondo who recently defected to the PF.
