Kambwili granted a K50,000 bail

Suspected PF cadres attack Kambwili’s supporters at Central Police

Defunct National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Chishimba Kambwili has been granted a K50,000 bail in his own recognizance with two working sureties.

And Dr Kambwili has pleaded not guilty to one count of defamation of the President contrary to section 69 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

He appeared in court this morning before Lusaka Magistrate Lameck Mwale.

He was arrested on Wednesday, 28th August,2019 and detained in Police custody where he has been since.

It is alleged that Dr Kambwili between 26th and 27th August defamed the President with intent to bring his name into hatred, ridicule or contempt by publishing an insulting matter by word of mouth.

This follows a video that went viral on social media in which he allegedly referred to President Edgar Lungu as a dog.

The matter is expected to come up for mention on 13th September 2019, while commencement of trial has been set for 30th September.
