Kambwili arrested and charged for defamation of the president

Police have arrested and charged defunct National Democratic Congress (NDC) President Chishimba Kambwili with defamation of the President.

This is in accordance with Section 61 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Mr Kambwili who was summoned to appear at Lusaka Central Police station for questioning is believed to have been arrested in connection with his recent remarks about a “Dog from Chawama”.

NDC national youth Chairperson Charles Kabwita who was among party officials that accompanied Mr Kambwili to the Police station has confirmed the arrest of the NDC leader.

Mr Kambwili has since been remanded in Police custody after being Police bond.

And speaking before his arrest when he arrived at the Police station around 10:22 hours amidst a heavy Police presence, Mr Kambwili condemned the move by the Police command to send 15 armed Police officers to his residence simply to deliver a call-out.

He has vowed that arresting him will not stop him from talking about the challenges affecting the country.
