Five member Lusaka province planning appeals tribunal sworn-in

CHIEF Justice Irene Mambilima has sworn-in a five member Lusaka province planning appeals committee tribunal with a call on the to quicken the adjudication of planning disputes.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony at the Supreme Court in Lusaka, Justice Mambilima noted that Lusaka province is experiencing a number of challenges in land development which include illegal land development, illegal subdivisions of land and illegal change of land use.

Justice Mambilima says the need for the members of the tribunal to dedicate themselves towards ensuring the speedy hearing and determination of appeals to do with land development cannot be overemphasized, as justice delayed is justice denied.

She has explained that the swearing in of the tribunal members comes as a result of the enactment of the urban and regional planning Act no.3 of 2015 which replaced the town and country planning act cap 283 and consequently led to the dissolution of the former town and country planning tribunal.

Justice Mambili notes that justice on planning disputes will now be delivered at local level as quickly as possible.

The Chief Justice is confident that the members of the tribunal will diligently serve in the interest of the nation at large in promoting orderly development in the country.

And Local Government Minister Charles Banda emphasized the need for the tribunal members to expedite cases of land development in the country.

The five sworn-in tribunal members are Milner Katolo who is the president,Dr Peter Njombo,Muhau Wina,Joseph Zulu and Dr Wilma Nchito.
