FIC calls for coordinated approach in tackling illicit financial flows

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has called for a coordinated approach in tackling illicit financial flows in the country.

FIC Director General Mary Chirwa says there is more that needs to be done to deal with the vice successfully.

Ms Chirwa is suggesting that a specific research be undertaken to establish the quantum of resources the country is losing through illicit financial flows.

Speaking in Chilanga when she opened a two day media training workshop on illicit financial flows organized by the Centre for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD),Ms Chirwa has also noted the need to look at tax administration in the country.

She says there is equally need to seal financial leakages in contracts and trade.

Speaking earlier, CTPD head of Research Brian Mwiinga explained that workshop which has been organized in partnership with AFRODAD and Debt Jubilee of the United Kingdom is in recognition of the seriousness the issue of illicit financial flows is in the country.
