Former Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane doubts the rebasing of the Zambian economy will presently achieve anything in turning things around.
Dr. Musokotwane says rebasing will only improve statistics on the size of the Country’s economy.
He tells QTV News that there is in fact a possibility of coming up with a figure that leaves out new industries that are established after rebasing has taken place.
Dr. Musokotwane, however, states that rebasing of the economy has advantages when it comes to expanding the tax base.
He says if government establishes the actual size of the economy, it will be able to know which sectors are not being fully taxed.
