The Zambia National Education Coalition has commended Higher Education Minister Brian Mushimba for announcing the reopening of the Copperbelt University on 19th August, 2019.
ZANEC Executive Director George Hamusunga says the reopening of CBU should be seen as the first step in addressing the many problems facing higher learning institutions in the country.
Mr. Hamusunga says the problems that are currently obtaining in higher learning institutions can only be resolved by open and honest dialogue involving university managements, students and the Minister of Higher Education.
He has told Q-news that the coalition is hopeful that the new Minister will soon provide a platform for resolving the issues at both the Copperbelt University and the University of Zambia.
Mr. Hamusunga has further advised management at Copperbelt University to be flexible and open to divergent views.
Meanwhile Mr. Hamusunga has called upon government to increase the funding to higher learning institutions and to the Education and Skills Sector as a whole to at least 20% of the National budget in 2020.
