Implementation of sales tax moved to January 2020

Finance Minister Bwalya Ng’andu says Sales Tax will now be implemented in January 2020.

The implementation of the Sales Tax was initially set for July 2019 before it was deferred to September 2019.

Dr. Ng’andu this afternoon moved a motion in parliament to withdraw the Sales Tax Bill before the house adjourned sine die.

Addressing the house through the Speaker, Dr Ng’andu informed the house that the Sales Tax Bill will be reintroduced during the Budget session commencing in September 2019, in readiness for its implementation in January 2020.

The Finance Minister says this will allow for sufficient time to address the concerns in the Sales Tax Bill that stakeholders raised during the comprehensive consultations that were undertaken on Sales Tax implementation, and for businesses to adapt.
