LCC threatens to sue developers of Lusaka’s Woodlands stadium

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has given the developers of the infrastructure around Woodlands Stadium Seven days to show cause why legal action should not be taken against them after interim inspections revealed that the developer was conducting demolition works for alterations to the existing structure without a permit from the council.

Council Public relations manager George Sichimba says the ultimatum follows revelations of interim inspections that show that there was negligence on the part of the contractors leading to the fatal accident that happened at the site on 19th July, 2019.

Meanwhile The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has prosecuted 24 street vendors in the Lusaka Fast Track Court for contravening the Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 12 of 2018.

Mr Sichimba says 7 of the 24 vendors were slapped with Seven days community service while 19 were fined amounts ranging from K100 to K150 failure to which they will serve a custodial sentence of two to three weeks.

Mr. Sichimba says the vendors were apprehended from the Central Business District and other areas in the city.

He adds that during the same period, two people appeared in court; one for selling expired foodstuffs contrary to the Food and Drugs Act and the other for failure to produce a registration certificate for a dog.
