CBUAU advises Mushimba to embrace dialogue

The Copperbelt University Academics Union (CBUAU) has advised new higher education minister, Brian Mushimba to embrace dialogue with all the stakeholders in public universities if he is to succeed.

And the union has called on Dr. Mushimba to immediately reopen the Copperbelt University unconditionally as well as withdraw the letters of suspension and expulsion handed to Student Union Leaders and other students as a sign of goodwill.

Union general secretary Willie Ngosa says the closure of the institution was done in bad faith characterized by false accusations against lecturers and students.

Mr Ngosa says the union is delighted with the appointment of Dr Mushimba who has taken over from Professor Nkandu Luo who he says brought to all institutions of higher learning untold turmoil through her anarchist style of leadership driven by egocentricity.

He has further urged Dr. Mushimba to restore all student unions in higher learning Institutions as these are provided for under the Higher Education Act as a channel of communication between University Managements and the Student populace.

Mr Ngosa has also implored Mr Mushimba to ensure that government Grants and Tuition fees are timely remitted to Universities and Colleges to avoidunnecessary industrial disharmony caused by delayed salaries for members of staff.
