No one has died of hunger, Kabwe disputes speculation

Government has disputed as mere speculation a report suggesting people have begun dying in Southern Province due to an alleged worsen hunger situation.

Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe says his office has not received any report of two people who died of hunger as was recently reported in the Province.

Mr. Kabwe says the DMMU has in fact been on the ground and has established that none of the hospitals in Southern Province have recorded any death arising from hunger.

He states that from his findings, as DMMU National Coordinator, he has equally learnt that even the Police in the Province have not recorded any death perpetuated by hunger.

In an interview with Q-News Mr. Kabwe has since argued that his office will not work on speculation as it is always on ground to verify facts whenever there is need for it to deal with any specific situation.

Mr. Kabwe says to this effect the DMMU, on Friday, distributed 1500 tons of relief food in all Districts of Southern province.

He says in August another 1500 tons of relief food will be sent for distribution in the province.
