President Lungu pushes for mechanization agenda

President Edgar Lungu says government will collaborate with local companies supplying agro-equipment in an effort to attain and support the mechanization agenda in the country’s agricultural sector.

Speaking when he toured Saro agro, a Zambian agro equipment manufacturing company in Lusaka, president lungu says the ministries of commerce and agricultural will engage with local agro-equipment companies to see how small and large scale framers can be supplied with equipment that can help in pushing the country’s mechanization agenda forward.

The head of state is optimistic that enhanced mechanization can help Zambia achieve its vision of becoming a bread basket for the African region as there will be increased and enhanced production.

President Lungu states that mechanization will help in improving farming methods as well as enhance the smart agricultural agenda.

And making a presentation on the operations of Saro Agro limited to the head of state, company managing director Ashok Oza disclosed that the company is already working with most of the ministries and is training and supplying machines such as hammer mills and tractors.

Mr. Oza has also disclosed that the company currently employees over 300 workers.

He says the company has since 2011 sold over 70,000 hammer mills as well as manufacturing and supplying tanks for edible oils and fuels.

Saro agro management has since donated four hummer mills to President Lungu which he said will be handed over to women groups.
