Doctorates & professorships mean nothing to me – President Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says he is not fit to be called Dr. Edgar Lungu as he does not yet have a doctorate degree.

President Lungu however states that PhDs and professorships actually mean nothing to him.

He says even if he was to be conferred with a PhD he would not want to be recognized as such, because he prefers to be simple Edgar.

President Lungu is however humbled that the University of Zambia (UNZA) senate has endorsed the decision to confer him with an honorary PhD in good governance.

Speaking shortly after arrival from Lusaka at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola, President Lungu told a crowd that welcomed him that he was in fact one of the best students at UNZA.

President Lungu states that if he wanted to venture into the academic world, he could have actually been a professor by now.

He says those that are therefore saying that he does not deserve a PhD in good governance, are only playing politics and he will not respond to them.

The President, who is in Ndola to watch an ABSA final football match at Levy Mwanawasa stadium, states that whether he is called Dr. or not, what he has is already his.

He says the degree in law and other post graduate diplomas he has, are nothing compared to what he has in his heart.
