Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) is happy that the online initiative it launched last year to facilitate the engagement of members of the public in the social movement against corruption in the country is slowly yielding results.

TIZ Executive Director Wesley Chibamba says a number of individuals utilizing the platform to report and monitor activities of corruption at their convenient times are reporting.

Mr. Chibamba has told q-news in an interview that the utilization of technology in fighting corruption both in the public and private sector is crucial.

Recently TIZ announced that Zambia dropped 9 places in ranking on the 2018 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index (CPI).

From the 180 countries gauged under the CPI, Zambia is now ranked number 105 after scoring 35 out of 100 points from the 37 out of 100 points it scored in 2017.

But Mr. Chibamba says his organization decided to tap on the current technology through using the online platform because the application is on every smart phone and information will reach a wider cross-section of society from rural to urban areas alike.

He has however emphasized that the corruption online reporting system is meant to enhance the way the country is handling corruption cases.
