Govt urged not to restrict social media

PANOS Institute Southern Africa Executive Director; Lillian Kiefer has noted the need for government and other stakeholders to support the growth of social media.

Mrs. Kiefer has told q-news in an interview that  social media is here to stay.

She says there is need to increase access to social media while working with the public and other stakeholders’ to ensure that they address the vices that are coming with social media.

Mrs. Kiefer feels that social media has presented an opportunity for people to debate and to share information among members of the public.

The PANOS Institute Southern Africa Executive Director says restricting social media is not going to resolve the issue of fake news in the country.
