UPND urges EL to distinctively command Zambia Police

The UPND is disappointed that President Edgar Lungu has called on the Zambia Police to deal with political violence as opposed to commanding the institution.

UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka says his party wants President Lungu to command the Police to crackdown on political violence in the Country.

Mr. Katuka says as commander in chief of all armed forces, President Lungu must be giving distinct directives to law enforcement agencies as opposed to appealing to them.

In an interview with Q-News Mr. Katuka has encouraged President Lungu to emulate his late counterpart Levy Mwanawasa who stood his ground on political violence and corruption.

Mr. Katuka says his party also expects President Lungu not to fire any of the police officers that act professionally in dealing with political violence in the Country.

He says this entails that when the President makes a decision to end political violence he must be clear in his mind that his directive is applied to all perpetrators of the vice.
