President Lungu orders arrest of perpetrators of violence

President Edgar Lungu has called for perpetrators of political violence to be brought to book regardless of political affiliation.

Delivering his State of the Nation address on the application of national values and principles in Parliament, President Lungu says political violence threatens national unity.

He says no one is above the law, and that anyone who goes against the law must be dealt with professionally by the law enforcers.

President Lungu has stressed the need to promote co-existence in the country.

He has since condemned in the strongest terms all forms of political violence.

And President Lungu has called for patriotism among Zambians.

He says patriotism demands that every Zambian speaks well of the country always.

President Lungu further noted the need for Zambians to be proud of the country.

He has also stressed the need for country to reconcile, urging citizens including the opposition not to shun national events such as the national day of prayer, FASTING, repentance and reconciliation.

President Lungu has also called for genuine engagement in order to promote national unity, urging citizens to play a part in promoting national unity.

On Corruption, President Lungu described the vice as an evil that unnecessarily inflates prices and erodes investor confidence.

He has urged Zambians to detest the vice and report acts of corruption to the relevant authorities.

President Lungu has also disclosed that government has now developed a national framework to assist in gathering evidence in the implementation of national values and principles.

The framework, whose development was mooted during the March 2017 presidential address to Parliament, is to be used at national, organizational, community and individual levels.

President Lungu says the framework also provides a mechanism to facilitate comprehensive reporting and tracking of progress on application of national values and principles.

He has expressed happiness on the strides made in the application of national values and principles.

President Lungu however, notes that more needs to be done to entrench the Country’s national values and principles in all endeavors of life of the Zambian people.

He states that Zambians must remain committed to what they have set for themselves as national values and principles.
