Delay by ECZ to set date for Kafue Council Chairperson by-election is depriving political parties- KOPE

The United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) says the delay by the Electoral Commission of Zambia to set the date for the Kafue Council Chairperson by-election is depriving political parties the 30 days traditional campaign period.

UPPZ Spokesperson Francis Kope says the delay to announce the date is a clear assault on the country’s democratic process.

Mr Kope says political parties cannot only have 12 days to campaign and be expected to reach all the corners of the vast area to sell their candidates and manifestoes.

He says it has always been a tradition that 30 days is given for campaigns in a by-election, with 90 days for the general election.
