Prime TV suspension is dictatorial – CiSCA

CiSCA Chairperson Bishop John Mambo

Civil Society Constitution Agenda (CiSCA) has described as dictatorial the move by   the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) to suspend Prime TV on allegation of unprofessional reporting.

CiSCA Chairperson Bishop John Mambo has told Q-news that the suspension of the television station has deprived many Zambians the right to comparable information sources resulting in them being left behind due to information distortions and gaps which consequently has undermined the National Development Plan’s theme of “leaving no one behind”.

Bishop Mambo has reminded the authorities that the private media institutions they are harassing and intimidating today, will be dear to them when they are no longer in authority.

He has since called on the IBA to immediately lift the suspension of Prime TV as it is detrimental to the existence and growth of independent and free media in Zambia.

Bishop Mambo has noted the need for the IBA and government authorities to explore other civilized options of enforcing adherence to media ethics and professionalism and in resolving other teething problems facing all media houses in Zambia instead of rushing to suspend, revoke and apply other punitive measures.
