MMD confident Zambia will meet its 2030 aspirations

Tobias Kafumukache – MMD Acting Spokesperson

MMD National Executive Committee Chairperson-Energy, Tobias Kafumukache is confident that Zambia will meet its aspirations to connect 80 percent of the population to electricity by 2030.

The national electrification target is at 91 percent in urban areas and 51 percent in rural areas by 2030.

But Mr. Kafumukache says attaining the national electrification target is possible because government has introduced the private sector to participate in the production of generation of power.

Mr. Kafumukache has told q-news in an interview that this will attract a lot of economic activities for the country.

He has however called on government particularly the ministry of energy to speed up the process of giving the Purchase Power Agreements (PPAS).

The MMD National Executive Committee Energy Chairperson has noted the need to accommodate a lot of independent power producers so that the country can have an influx of power and be able to export to other regions that might need power.
