10 houses Collapse in Mkushi District

Ten (10) houses have been destroyed after a heavy storm blew off roofs in Mkushi district.

Mkushi district commissioner Luke Mwamba says 10 houses had their roofs blown off after a heavy downpour, leaving two minors aged six and five injured.

Mr. Mwamba says the incident happened on Tuesday 6th match 2019 around 16 hours.

He says the affected families have no shelter and have been left in the cold.

Mr. Mwamba was speaking when disaster management and mitigation unit DMMU national coordinator Chanda Kabwe visited the affected families in Mkushi.

He says one household has been severely hit because a widow with 15 dependents does not have anywhere to go.

And Mr. Kabwe has assured the affected families that government will help them.

Mr. Kabwe however directed Mkushi district commissioner to ensure engineers assess the affected houses to determine how many roofing sheets and other materials will be needed in order to reconstruct the houses in line with the build back better concept.

He adds that government has also provided some logistics such as foodstuffs and money to the affected families as an emergency response.

Mr. Kabwe has assured the affected families that President Edgar Lungu would not neglect them because what has befallen them is a disaster.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kabwe has assured the people of north-western province that government will be on ground to respond to their cry.

This follows the blowing off of roofing sheets of the maternity ward at Solwezi General Hospital yesterday.
