JCTR Executive Director Fr. Emmanuel Mumba

The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection has noted that the majority of Zambian women chose to stay away from politics due to political violence.

JCTR Executive Director Emmanuel Mumba says although progress has been made in increasing the participation of women in politics in Zambia, violence has remained a major impediment for more women participation.

Fr. Mumba says women participation in governance issues is generally low because of the fear of violence.

He has told Q-news that unless there is a level playing field, where there is no intimidation, violence among others; women will continue to shun politics.

Fr. Mumba has recommended for government to ensure there is a level playing field favorable to everyone.
