Pending national processes worsening uncertainty-Mphuka

Economist Chrispin Mphuka says the pending processes such as the National Dialogue and Constitutional refinement are exacerbating political uncertainty in the Country.

Dr. Mphuka has agreed with former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande who also cited the intention to report President Edgar Lungu to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a factor of political uncertainty.

In an interview with Q-News, Dr. Mphuka has however, acknowledged that it is difficult to ascertain the extent to which these factors will impact investments in the Country.

Dr. Mphuka, who is also former Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) president, states that this is particularly that all three processes are not completely set to take place.

He notes that investors need to actually know what the outcome of either three processes will be before they can make any responding adjustments.

And Dr. Mphuka says the downward adjustment in the retail price of fuel will not have much impact on the Country’s economy.

He notes that the reduction is marginal and has come at a time when the Kwacha has depreciated against major currencies.
