Wizard stoned to death in Shiwang’andu

Two of the five suspected wizards who were involved in a witchcraft bizarre last week that stunned residents of Shiwang’andu Town of Muchimga Province have died.

The duo Joseph Kasashi and Abel Chibalange died concurrently between 09:00 hours and 19:00 hours respectively.

While Kasashi committed suicide, his colleague Chibalange was killed by mob justice after he was stoned to death.

ZANIS reports that Shiwang’andu District Commissioner Evelyn Kangwa who confirmed the incident today said that after examining the body of the deceased, police concluded that Kasashi committed suicide hence there was no foul play.

Ms. Kangwa has however cautioned the angry community members in the affected Village not to take law into their own hands, adding that Government has already taken a step to handle the matter.

Facts behind the event are that after the deceased Joseph Kasashi committed suicide, an angry mob rose against the four suspected wizards and in the process killed Abel Chibalange while  Adson Sakala and Joel Ng’ona  sustained injuries while Michael Kunda escaped unhurt.

Meanwhile, Shiwang’andu district Commissioner Evelyn Kangwa said that the two  surviving suspected wizards are currently admitted at Matumbo Health facility while one is being kept at Matumbo Police Station for safety.

Ms. Kangwa said the remaining alleged wizards will still appear in court tomorrow on 5 March 2019.

Last week Shiwang’andu District Commissioner Evelyn Kangwa warned those practicing witchcraft in Shiwang’andu Town to desist from the act.

She said this following a bizarre incident were a wizard fell off from a magic plane on Monday last week.

The suspected wizard was in company of 4 other wizards who were on a mission to bewitch a veteran resident of Shiwang’andu, and it happened the five wizards had a conflict after one discovered that their target was actually a relative, and this forced his comrades to push him off the magic plane.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase who confirmed the development, said the five suspected wizards were arrested by the police in Shiwang’andu for allegedly practicing witchcraft but were later released on police bond.
