GTAZ hails govt for lifting ban on exports of mealie meal

The Grain Traders Association of Zambia (GTAZ) has hailed the decision by government to lift the ban on the export of mealie meal.

GTAZ Executive Director Chambuleni Simwinga says the lifting of the ban will benefit grain traders, millers and government itself.

Mr. Simwinga says with the ban out of the way, millers will now be able to buy off the bulk of the maize which grain traders have not been able to sell while the ban was still in force.

In An Interview With Q-News, Mr. Simwinga has however, observed the need to address the issue of policy inconsistency on the part of government.

He says his association has observed that inconsistencies in policy which the sector has been subjected to ha mainly been as a result of misinformed decisions by policy makers.

Mr. Simwinga says the ban on maize and maize products was arrived at after just one player in the sector felt that there was no sufficient maize in the Country when in fact not.
