Honor Global Fund pledge, CITAMplus urges govt

The Community Initiative for Malaria and Tuberculosis (CITAMplus) has observed the need for the Zambian government to honor its US$5 million pledge to the Global Fund.

CITAMplus Executive Director Carol Kachenga says her organization is concerned that despite having made the pledge in 2016, government has not committed any budgetary allocation.

Ms. Kachenga says CITAMplus’ concern is particularly that Zambia is expected to contribute at least US$3 million during the Global Fund replenishment cycles of 3 years which is due this year.

Speaking during a media workshop on Global Fund replenishment and accountability, Ms. Kachenga disclosed that the CITAMplus intends to remind government of what is expected of it.

Ms. Kachenga says the media will therefore be critical for organizations such as hers in effective campaigns on the need for government to honor its pledge.

She has warned that there will be implications if government does not honor its pledge at the time donors are expecting implementing Countries to make contributions to the Global Fund.
