Kapata notes the need for concerted efforts in addressing climate change

Lands Minister Jean Kapata

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata has noted the need for concerted efforts in addressing climate change if the serious threat it is posing to development is to be countered.

Ms. Kapata says the fight against Climate Change requires the support of civil society organisations as government alone cannot to succeed.

Speaking when she officiated at the First General Assembly for Civil Society, Organisation Environmental Hub, in Lusaka, Ms. Kapata, says it is important that CSOs help government in addressing Climate change through more streamlined consultations.

Ms Kapata says government takes the challenges brought about as a result of the effects of climate change seriously as they have the potential to reverse the gains that have been achieved over the years as well as frustrate development efforts.

Meanwhile Finish Ambassador to Zambia Pirton Suomela-Chowdhury says the role of CSO’s in promoting sustainable development is crucial, hence the need for them to ensure that sustainable results are produced.

Ambassador Chowdhury has also disclosed that his country will for the next three years support the private sector with the aim of strengthening the Zambia Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.

And CSO’s Environmental Hub National Coordinator Godfrey Phiri has disclosed that environmental hub plans to empower various communities so that they can protect the natural resources.

Mr. Phiri has since commended government for coming up with the Keep Zambia Clean and Green Campaign noting that it is such efforts that ensure sustainable environmental protection.
