Alliance rejects Constitution amendment proposal

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has described the recent proposed constitution amendment by the pf government as an assault and abrogation of the democratic rights of citizens.

Speaking during an opposition alliance media briefing at the upnd secretariat, Mr Hichilema says the constitution making process is a preserve of the Zambian people and that pf has no right to bulldoze the process.

Mr Hichilema says the pf wants to continue hoodwinking Zambians into single-handedly pushing a sole agenda of amending the constitution.

He says it is wrong for the pf to be acting as if they are the owners of the country and could do as they please without consulting the true owners of the country, the Zambians.

Speaking at the same briefing which happened before his arrest, NDC Consultant Chishimba Kambwili says the alliance is not prepared to take part in the proposed amendment process of the constitution before the national dialogue.

And Opposition Alliance Chairperson Charles Milupi accused the pf of trying to mess around with the republican constitution.
