Kambwili arrested, denied bond

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Consultant Chishimba Kambwili has been arrested and detained at Lusaka Central Police station after being charged with uttering racial remarks against a road construction worker of Indian Origin.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says Mr Kambwili has been charged with expression or showing Hatred,Ridicule or contempt for persons because of Race,Tribe or place of origin or Colour contrary to section 70 of the penal Code,Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

And Mrs Carol Kambwili has disclosed that police have denied her husband police bond.

And his lawyer Chrisptopher Mundia says his client has been charged under section 70 of the penal Code,Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

He says police have indicated that Mr Kambwili will be taken to court tomorrow.

Mr Kambwili was arrested after being interrogated for about an hour.

He is alleged to have racially abusing a worker of Indian origin working under the Lusaka roads decongestion project.

Mr Kambwili arrived at the Lusaka Central Police station at about 10:055 hours in the company of other opposition leaders among UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema,NAREP President Elias Chipimo And Sean Tembo.

He briefly left the police station in protest after police refused to allow other opposition leaders to accompany him inside.

The roan member of parliament only returned to the police station after his lawyers had a discussion with the police.

Meanwhile NAREP President Elias Chipimo has charged that Mr Kambwili’s arrest is aimed at punishing.
