PANOs Institute Southern Africa Executive Director; Lillian Kiefer has opposed government‘s decision where it is proposing the Media Association Bill saying once in effect, it will hinder the operation of the media.
recently Information and Broadcasting Service Minister Chief Government Spokesperson, Dora Siliya says the media Association of Zambia Bill will be ready by 31st march, 2019.
Ms. Siliya says once this bill is enacted, a media association through which media practitioners and media owners shall regulate themselves will be established.
But Ms. Ms Kiefer says government should instead help the media to put in place a board that will enable the media to regulate itself.
She has told q-news in an interview that efforts for the media to regulate itself cannot be achieved without the support of the government.
