The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has applied to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) for some relief food which will be sent to areas that have been hit by floods and drought in order to avert any looming hunger.
Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo says areas such as Chama South in Eastern Province which has been hit by floods is among those that earmarked to receive the relief food from DMMU.
Mr. Katambo has reiterated that this why government has put in place some administrative and restrictive measures on the export of maize in order to safeguard the country’s food security.
And Mr. Katambo has assured the country that it has enough maize grain to last up to the next harvest period.
He has since called on those calling on him to lift the administrative measure on the export of maize outside the country not to panic as the country has enough maize stock.
