World Vision hands over Mini hospital to govt

World Vision Zambia has constructed a first ever Mini Hospital in Moyo Village in Pemba District of Southern Province which is expected to benefit more than seventy eight thousand people.

Speaking when handing over the hospital to government, World Vision Zambia Country Director John Hasse says the hospital has been constructed at a total value of five million seven hundred kwacha with an addition cost of more than two million four hundred thousand kwacha spent.

Mr. Hasse says the additional cost has been spent on medical equipment, rehabilitation of old structures and purchase of an ambulance.

Mr. Hasse adds that according to statistics done at the upgraded mini hospital, the health center was recording a minimum of 20 children dying of malaria within 3-4 months while other cases went unreported.

He states that due to lack of medical equipment, infrastructure, shelter and ambulance, Moyo Mini Hospital struggled to provide the much needed health care services to deal with situations such as the complicated maternal and new born cases among others.

Mr. Hasse adds that he is pleased to hand over the hospital to government and the community knowing very well that most of the fears talked about will now be dealt with amicably to save people’s lives.

He has since appealed to the minister  of health to consider electrifying the hospital with hydro power if the hospital is to operate effectively and to help decongest Choma and Monze hospitals and save lives in the respective departments that require electricity to operate effectively.

Receiving the hospital on behalf of government, Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya says the work done by world vision is part of governments agenda to deliver development to all parts of the country by involving a healthy human capital to drive the social economic development agenda.

Dr Chilufya has thanked world vision for partnering with government in building strong health systems through infrastructure development.

He has since assured the people of Pemba District that his ministry will partner with the rural electrification authority to ensure that the hospital is electrified before the end of 2019.

And Chief Moyo of Moyo village has thanked world vision for bringing this development to the chiefdom and has since appealed to the residents to appreciate and take care of the facility built for them.
