ECL orders police to arrest perpetrators of violence

President Edgar Lungu has instructed police to arrest all perpetrators of political violence regardless of their political affiliation.

And President Lungu is encouraging the Zambia Police Service not to tolerate any form of political violence in Bahati Constituency of Luapula Province.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has told journalists in Lusaka that the police should deal with any individual or group of persons who attempt to cause violence before during and after the Bahati Parliamentary by-elections.

Mr. Chanda says President Edgar Lungu has directed the police to arrest perpetrators of violence regardless of their political affiliations in Bahati Constituency.

He has emphasized that Zambia has enjoyed peace for this long and he would not want to be seen to be tolerating violence.

Mr. Chanda has stressed the that police must account for all cases of politically motivated violence regardless of the status of those involved.

He has expressed dismay with the cases of violence adding the country does not tolerate such practices.
