Politicized graft fight irks President Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has expressed displeasure at how the fight against corruption is being politicized in Zambia.

President Lungu is worried that the opposition political Leaders have continued to use corruption as a vehicle to gain political mileage.

Speaking when South African Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi paid a courtesy on him at State house, President Lungu has acknowledged that corruption is a cancer and needs to be fought, but that the manner in which the fight is being politicized is worrying.

President Lungu says the people who are calling for the fight against corruption are not genuine.

He has expressed regret that issues pertaining to development that need to unite Zambians to eliminate are taking divisive dimensions.

President Lungu has however, called on Zambians to come together and unite their efforts to fight corruption, which has become a hindrance to national progress.

Meanwhile President Lungu says government values and respects the relationship it enjoys with traditional leaders across the country.

He has however, stressed the need for traditional leaders to redefine their role as they engage in politics so as to avoid a situation where they are messed up.

And speaking when he paid a courtesy call to President Lungu, PRINCE Mangosuthu Buthelezi of the Zulu Kingdom of Kwazulu has commended President Lungu for respecting traditional leaders in Zambia.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who is in the country to grace this year’s N’cwala Ceremony of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province has encouraged the Zambian government to continue working hand in hand with traditional leaders with a view to supporting the vital role they play in the development of the country.
